Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I see Dr. Wurtz for primary care or general healthcare needs?

Dr. Wurtz does not provide primary care services. This means she does not offer wellness visits and routine physicals, screening tests (PAPs, etc), wound care, care for acute illness, and immunizations. We recommend that you maintain a relationship with a licensed primary care provider for your general health care needs. Dr. Wurtz will gladly confer with your primary care doctor if necessary.

Does Dr. Wurtz accept insurance?

We’re sorry, Dr. Wurtz does not accept any form of insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid. We understand this may be a disappointment. There are two reasons why Dr. Wurtz does not participate in insurance networks:

1) As of this time, Illinois insurance companies do not allow Naturopathic Doctors to participate.

2) Even if Dr. Wurtz could participate in insurance networks, she prefers to practice medicine without any interference, pressure or hassle from insurance companies. Dr. Wurtz believes in a direct and personal health care experience where the patient always comes first. She believes in extended, no-rush visits where the patient has plenty of time to tell their story and ask questions. When you invest in your health directly with Dr. Wurtz, you can expect a refreshing, stress-free healthcare experience, one with:

  • No surprise bills
  • No haggling with your insurance company
  • No interference with your care
  • No rushed visits

Direct health care is fast becoming a popular option even for people with good insurance. This is because insurance companies typically reimburse for costly tests, procedures, and surgeries, but not for extended visits where the most powerfully healing patient-doctor relationships are formed. That is why many people are choosing to invest out of pocket for the kind of care they want, in addition to paying their insurance premiums to cover catastrophic illnesses or injuries.

What’s included in the Health Restoration Program?

Our 6-Month and 12-Month Health Restoration Programs are personalized and comprehensive with the appropriate use of Naturopathic and Functional Medicine.

Can I work with Dr. Wurtz without enrolling in a program?

Dr. Wurtz requires that all new patients enroll in a program. Dr. Wurtz has carefully designed her Health Restoration Programs to provide the optional structure for healing. Each program includes all of the education, support, regular visits, and thoughtful attention to your situation that are essential for achieving your health goals as quickly and completely as possible. Dr. Wurtz has found that when patients see her only irregularly and infrequently, they do not achieve the same kind of results.

How long before I see results?

Healing depends on many variables, including how long you’ve had symptoms, your diagnosis, and the complexity of your illness. Factors such as genetics, past infections, exposure to environmental toxins, nutritional deficiencies, and lifestyle stressors can influence how long it takes you to get well.

Your ability to follow the treatment plan is important. The more completely you can implement Dr. Wurtz’s recommendations, the faster you will likely see results. Many people notice than after making the suggested lifestyle changes, they start to feel better quickly. For others, it’s more complicated.

Dr. Wurtz will discuss your follow-up plan in depth and clearly explain what you can expect for a treatment timeline, based on what she knows at the time. Please keep in mind that complex conditions do not develop overnight and they will take time to heal. The healing journey is not always a straight line. Dr. Wurtz will regularly assess your progress, communicate with you honestly, and make course corrections as necessary to make sure you stay on track.

Does Dr. Wurtz prescribe and manage medications? Can she take me off my medications?

In the state of Illinois, Naturopathic Doctors cannot prescribe or manage medications. However, as you make lifestyle changes during your 6-month or 12-month program, you may find that you require a smaller dose of your medications. Or, that you are able to discontinue medications altogether, under the guidance of your prescribing physician. This may not be true for all people and will depend on your condition and progress. With your permission, Dr. Wurtz will collaborate with your physician to manage your care.

Can I speak with Dr. Wurtz before signing up for a program?

Absolutely. Dr. Wurtz offers complimentary 10-minute consults by phone to prospective patients who meet the criteria for her programs.

I do not live near Chicago. Does Dr. Wurtz offer online or phone visits?
